NORMAN – A career night in the first home meet of the season earned freshman Mackenzie Estep her second Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week honor, the league announced Tuesday.
With Estep's nod this week, a Sooner has now won all three freshman of the week honors this season as Ella Murphy earned the honor in week two. LSU's Kailin Chio was named the gymnast of the week and Florida's Riley McCusker was named specialist of the week.
Estep played a crucial role in the Sooners victory over No. 5 Georgia last week as she helped lead the Sooners to the highest score in the nation with a 198.425, the first team to break the 198 mark in 2026. Estep posted three marks of 9.9-plus for the second time this season and now has seven scores of 9.9 or better in nine collegiate routines competed.
The Auburn, Wash., native won two event titles on the night (vault and bars) and now holds a pair of top 10 rankings, coming in at No. 2 on vault and No. 9 on floor, making her the only freshman in the SEC with two top 10 individual rankings.
Estep led the Sooners to the nation's top vault score this season (49.625) with her nearly-perfect Yurchenko 1.5. Estep earned a career best 9.975 for her stuck vault and has now earned a 9.9 or higher on all three vaults she has competed this season.
On bars, Estep won her second event title of the night, putting up a 9.925 for her second career-high score of the day. On floor, she shined once again with a 9.925 to tie her career high. Her score helped the Sooners post the top score in the nation on floor with a 49.650.
The Sooners will return to competition on Friday as they travel to Kentucky for the second SEC road trip of the season. That meet is set for a 5 p.m. CT start inside Historic Memorial Coliseum.
