No. 1/1 Softball Drops Regular Season Finale at No. 7/9 Florida

May 03, 2025 | Softball

GAINESVILLE, Fla.  — No. 1/1 Oklahoma Softball (43-7, 17-7) put up two runs in the seventh and got the go-ahead run to the plate, but No. 7/9 Florida (43-13, 14-10) held off the late push as the Sooners dropped the series and regular season finale, 6-4, Saturday, May 3.

The Sooners finish regular season play with a 43-7 overall record and 17-7 mark in conference play, earning an SEC Regular Season Championship in year one in the league.

OU goes into the SEC Tournament having won seven of its last nine games, including sweeps against No. 15/16 Mississippi State and No. 3/2 Texas.

UF 6, OU 4
Florida pushed one across in the first, using a one-out walk, Taylor Shumaker double and sac fly from Reagan Walsh. Cydney Sanders was just a foot away from tying the game, but UF center fielder Kendra Falby robbed what would have been a home run.

UF extended its lead to 3-0 on a two-RBI double from Korbe Otis that landed just out of the outstretched arm of Hannah Coor in center field.

Sanders got a hold of one for the second time on the night, but this one landed well beyond the wall in left to get OU on the board. Gabbie Garcia plated another in the fifth with a sac fly, trimming the deficit to 3-2.

With OU chipping away, the Gators did half their damage in the sixth, scoring three. Ava Brown hit a leadoff home run before Sam Landry retired the next batter she faced. A single, throwing error and fielder's choice resulted in all runners being safe. Two more plays at the plate ended up in UF runs as the Gators took a 6-2 lead.

Ella Parker singled and Garcia launched a two-run home to the trees in center field. OU kept things going with Ailana Agbayani working a walk and Cydney Sanders doing the same. UF recorded the final out on a groundout to keep the lead.
