April 26, 2025 | Men's Golf
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Oklahoma's run at the SEC Championship came to an end Saturday, falling 3-2 in the match play quarterfinals to No. 8 Florida.
The sixth-ranked Sooners, who earned points from Jase Summy and SEC runner-up Drew Goodman, couldn't swing the momentum in the other three matches. Oklahoma advanced to match play as the No. 4 seed after finishing fourth in stroke play.
Summy delivered a dominant performance, defeating Matthew Kress 4UP. Starting on the back nine, Summy took control early, winning the 10th, 11th, 14th and 17th holes to build an insurmountable lead.
Goodman, fresh off a runner-up finish in stroke play, battled fellow All-American Jack Turner in a back-and-forth match. Goodman trailed early but evened the match on 11 and took the lead at 14. After Turner tied it on 15, Goodman regained the advantage on 16 and closed out the match with wins at holes 4 and 5 for a 2UP victory.
Matthew Troutman fell to Luke Poulter, 4&2, while Clark Van Gaalen dropped a 5&4 decision to two-time All-American Ian Gilligan. Ryder Cowan was defeated by Zach Swanwick, 4&3, to clinch the Gators' 3-2 team win.
Florida advances to face top-seeded Auburn in the semifinals, while Texas A&M will play either LSU or Alabama.
The Sooners now await their NCAA Regional destination, which will be announced during the NCAA Golf Selection Show on Golf Channel at noon CT on April 30. Oklahoma has made a program-record 13 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and has advanced to the NCAA Championships every year since 2011.
