Summy, Van Gaalen Sweep SEC Weekly Golf Honors

April 02, 2025 | Men's Golf

NORMAN – A pair of Oklahoma men's golfers swept weekly SEC honors, as Jase Summy was named the league's Golfer of the Week and Clark Van Gaalen earned Freshman of the Week recognition, the conference announced Wednesday.

Summy became the second Sooner this season to earn Golfer of the Week, joining Jaxon Dowell. The Keller, Texas, native secured his second career victory by defeating 13 top-100 golfers to win the Maridoe Intercollegiate. He posted three under-par rounds and finished at 210 (-6) to win by two strokes. Summy was one of only four golfers to finish under par at Maridoe Golf Club, leading the seventh-ranked Sooners to their fourth win of the season.

Van Gaalen became the first Sooner to claim the league's Freshman of the Week honor. The Turlock, Calif., product fired rounds of 73-71-73 to finish sixth at Maridoe, topping nine top-100 players. It marked his second top-10 finish of his debut season after finishing runner-up at the Ka'anapali Classic in the fall.

Oklahoma dominated from start to finish at Maridoe, finishing 16 shots ahead of second-place No. 4 Oklahoma State, 30 clear of No. 4 Arizona State and 32 ahead of No. 14 Alabama. Since the start of the 2021-22 season, the Sooners have tallied 19 stroke-play victories – the most of any SEC team. The win also extended OU's streak to 16 consecutive full semesters with a tournament title, the longest run in program history. The Sooners' four wins this season rank sixth all-time and fifth under head coach Ryan Hybl.

Oklahoma wraps up its regular season April 12-13 at the Aggie Invitational, held at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. The Sooners open postseason play at the SEC Championship on April 23 in St. Simons Island, Ga.
