See You Saturday: Sooners Advance to NCAA Finals

For the 11th time in the last 12 years, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is headed to the NCAA Finals behind a 197.550 performance Thursday afternoon in semifinal action.

The Sooners have now made 13 appearances in the team finals in program history. Oklahoma will be joined by Missouri (197.300) who finished in second place. Florida finished in third (197.200) and Alabama came in fourth (196.825). The final two competitors for Saturday's final will come from the second session tonight featuring LSU, Michigan State, Utah and UCLA.

Individual champions will also be determined after the second session as results will be combined. Jordan Bowers led the afternoon field with a 39.7125 in the all-around, followed by Torrez with a 39.6375. Bowers and Torrez also sit atop the field on floor with matching 9.95s, while Bowers is in first on bars with a 9.9375.

After the first rotation, the Sooners led the way with a 49.400 on bars. Following OU was Florida in second with a 49.300 (beam), Missouri in third with a 49.2250 (floor) and Alabama in fourth with a 49.1250 (vault). Dani Sievers led things off with a 9.825, followed by a strong routine and stuck landing from Lily Pederson for a 9.9125. Addison Fatta impressed with her Church release for a 9.8375 and Torrez stuck her double layout cold for a 9.8875 in the No. 4 spot. Audrey Davis added a 9.825 in the No. 5 spot. Bowers anchored with a stunning routine and a stuck dismount for a 9.9375.

OU held the lead at the halfway point with a 98.750 after a 49.350 on beam. Florida remained in second (98.650), Missouri held third (98.350) and Alabama was fourth (98.2875) through two. Davis showed off her confidence and poise in the lead off position to start the rotation with a 9.825. Fatta looked steady in the No. 2 spot, earning a 9.8625. After a fall in the third spot, Bowers came out strong with a 9.9375 to get things back on track. Keira Wells added a 9.775 in the No. 5 position. Torrez ended the rotation on a high note with a 9.95 as she nailed her series and stuck the dismount.

A 49.525 on floor had the Sooners at a 148.2750 through three rotations. Missouri moved into second (147.800), Florida sat in third (147.7250) and Alabama remained in fourth (147.4875). Davis opened the rotation with a 9.8625, followed by a 9.8875 from Sievers. A strong opening tumbling pass and beautiful choreography from Elle Mueller went 9.8625 in the No. 3 spot. Fatta kept her solid night going with a 9.875 in the No. 4 spot. Bowers stuck her opening pass and showed off her sky-high double pike for a 9.95. In the anchor spot, Torrez's energy and powerful tumbling was once again on display as she notched a 9.95 of her own.

A 49.275 on vault secured the victory and sent the Sooners to the finals. Pederson and Torrez started the rotation with matching 9.85s. Wells added a 9.825, followed by a 9.8375 from Fatta and a 9.850 from Mueller. Bowers closed the meet with a 9.8875.

Oklahoma will vie for its seventh overall NCAA title when it competes in Saturday's team finals. The meet will begin at 3 p.m. CT on ABC.
