No. 10 OU Takes Tuesday Win Over Tech in Frisco

April 01, 2025 | Baseball

FRISCO, Texas — No. 10 Oklahoma took a neutral site matchup over Texas Tech in Frisco Tuesday night by a final of 8-6.

Eight OU pitchers combined to allow the Red Raiders just five hits in the contest while striking out nine.

At the plate, OU (23-5, 5-4 SEC) put up eight runs on 14 hits, including six extra-base hits, including three home runs.

Oklahoma struck fast in the first. On the second pitch of the game, Jason Walk went yard to right field. It was the sophomore's fifth home run of the season and second in as many games after registering an inside-the-parker vs. Alabama on Sunday.

The Red Raiders (8-17, 4-5 Big 12) answered with a run in the bottom of the first via sacrifice fly to tie the contest.

Following a scoreless second where OU loaded the bases but Tech got out of the jam, the Sooners scored four runs on four hits in the third. RBI singles from freshman Drew Dickerson and sophomore Dasan Harris started the flurry. Walk continued his tear at the plate with an RBI double down the left line then junior Easton Carmichael concluded the inning's scoring with a run-scoring single to make it 5-1 through three.

OU pushed another one across in the fourth on a solo home run from junior Jaxon Willits. It was Willits' team-leading eighth of the year.

A scoreless fifth ensued before Tech plated a pair in the sixth on a single and a groundout. Sophomore lefty Gavyn Jones entered for OU and limited the damage, stranding a pair.

The Sooners quickly got the two runs back at the top of the seventh courtesy of Carmichael. The junior catcher launched his sixth home run of the season on a two-run shot after a Dasan Harris single.

Tech scattered three runs across the eighth and ninth innings, scoring on a solo home run in the eighth before a triple and single in the ninth plated a pair. OU closer Dylan Crooks entered and retired the side to collect his nation-leading ninth save of the season.

At the plate, Walk paced OU with a 3-for-4 showing, hitting two doubles and one home run, also drawing two walks and scoring two runs. Carmichael went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run.  Harris registered a career-best three hits, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI.

On the mound, OU utilized eight pitchers with Frisco product Michael Catalano (W, 2-0) earning his second win of the season. The frosh threw two scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Five of the eight OU arms registered strikeouts, paced by Catalano's three.

After a five-game road swing, Oklahoma returns to L. Dale Mitchell Park this weekend for a top-10 matchup vs. No. 7 LSU (27-3, 7-2 SEC). The Thursday-Saturday series begins with a 6 p.m. CT first pitch on Thursday, nationally-televised on ESPN2.
