NORMAN – With a career-high 9.975 on vault Friday night against Auburn,
Elle Mueller earned her first weekly award of the season, claiming SEC Co-Specialist of the Week. Mueller shared the honor with Florida's Victoria Nguyen.
Mueller is the second Sooner to win specialist of the week, joining teammate
Keira Wells who claimed the honor after the first week of the season. The Sooners have now claimed nine weekly honors to lead the league with six different athletes being recognized.
Mueller stole the show on vault Friday night, sticking her Yurchenko 1.5 for a near-perfect 9.975 to claim her first career event title. Mueller was not originally slated to vault on Friday and was inserted into the lineup after the touch warmup. The freshman seized the moment, earning herself a career high on the event. Mueller is only the second Sooner this season to earn a 9.975 or better on vault.
Her score led the Sooners to their second-highest vault score of the season with a 49.475. Her score was also one of just three marks of 9.9 or higher on vault in the meet. Mueller also added a 9.875 on a gorgeous floor routine to help the Sooners to their third-highest road score of the season and highest road score in SEC competition this season.
The Sooners are back in action on Friday at 7:15 p.m. when they host No. 17 Michigan for the final home meet of the season. The team will honor seniors
Jordan Bowers,
Audrey Davis,
Danae Fletcher and
Danielle Sievers in a post meet ceremony.
