NORMAN – After posting a season high 39.775 in the all-around, senior
Jordan Bowers was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The Sooners have now claimed 11 weekly honors to lead the league with six different athletes being recognized. This is the third honor for Bowers and first outright award. Bowers's three gymnast of the week awards is tied for the lead in the SEC with teammate
Faith Torrez and Florida's Leanne Wong.
Bowers had a senior night to remember, earning a 39.775 in the all-around to claim the all-around title Friday night. The mark was her second over 39.700 this season. Along with her event title in the all-around, the senior also added event titles on bars and beam with near perfect 9.975s on both events. She has now posted eight scores of 9.9 or higher on both events this season.
Bowers also added a 9.95 on floor, her 10
th straight mark of 9.9 or better on the event this season and eighth mark of 9.95 or better. Her strong performance placed her at No. 1 on floor in the nation, while also coming in at No. 3 in the all-around. This was the eighth time this season she has recorded at least a 9.9 on three of four events.
The Sooners are back in action Friday night for the final meet of the regular season at No. 9 Georgia. The meet will take place at 545 p.m. CT on SEC Network+ in Athens, Ga.
