NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics junior
Ignacio Yockers was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week after his performance in OU's road victory at Ohio State on Sunday, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced Tuesday.
Yockers notched a 14.300 on pommel horse in Oklahoma's 322.900 to 316.300 win at Ohio State. He put together a 9.0 execution score on his routine to place second on the event and help the Sooners register a season-high 55.300 team score on pommels. The Tulsa, Okla., product is one of only two gymnasts nationally to score at least a 14.000 on four pommel horse routines this season (all four of his scores have been 14.250 or higher). He ranks fourth nationally in pommel horse average.
This is Yockers' second MPSF award this season and the 10th conference weekly honor of his career, but his first career Gymnast of the Week award. He has been named the Specialist of the Week seven times and was Freshman of the Week twice.

Francisco Velez Belendez was named Freshman of the Week (Jan. 21).
Oklahoma returns home to McCasland Field House on Saturday, Feb. 8, to face No. 3 Stanford and No. 12 Greenville at 5:45 p.m. (first routine at 6 p.m.). Tickets are available for just $7 ($5 for youth and seniors) and can be purchased through the

Saturday is OU's annual Cleveland Night, featuring students and families from Norman's Cleveland Elementary School. Feb. 7-8 is also OU Gymnastics Alumni Weekend. The Sooners will welcome back gymnastics alumni and will honor the 2015 National Championship squad before the meet. Fans can also take advantage of $2 beer, soda and popcorn, pick up a free crimson pom and take photos with national championship trophies. The team will sign autographs following the meet.
