Sooners Fall at No. 1 Auburn

February 04, 2025 | Men's Basketball

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Johni Broome and Chad Baker-Mazara scored 15 points each and No. 1 Auburn remained undefeated in Southeastern Conference play with a 98-70 win over Oklahoma on Tuesday night.

Auburn (21-1, 9-0) has now won 14 games in a row, the second-longest active winning streak in the country.

The Tigers had five players in double figures for the second straight game. Denver Jones and Chaney Johnson both scored 13 points while Tahaad Pettiford added 11.

Oklahoma (16-6, 3-6) was led by Dayton Forsythe with 13 points. Jalon Moore added 11, while Jeremiah Fears and Kobe Elvis both had 10.

Dylan Cardwell had a career-high six blocks for the Tigers, who had 11 as a team.

Postgame Notes

• Oklahoma freshman guard Dayton Forsythe scored a team-high 13 points, his third double-figures game of the year and second straight (tied a career high with 14 points Saturday vs. No. 24 Vanderbilt).

• His 11 free throw makes and attempts were by far career highs (previous highs were two makes and three attempts). He entered the game 9 for 12 at the foul line on the season.

• Forsythe became just the sixth Sooner since the start of the 1996-97 season to shoot 100% from the free throw line with at least 11 attempts. The last time it happened was in 2018 when Trae Young went 11 for 11 Texas Tech.

• Forsythe played 21 minutes, his third straight game over 20 minutes. He played at least 20 minutes just once in OU's previous 19 contests.

• Oklahoma's .931 free throw percentage (27 for 29) was its best in a true road game (min. 15 makes) since Jan. 26, 2022, when it shot .955 (21 for 22) at West Virginia. The Sooners now rank fifth nationally this season with their .800 season percentage.

• OU's .333 field goal percentage was a season low.

• The Sooners were outscored in fastbreak points (14-3) for just the second time this season.

• OU returns home to host No. 4/4 Tennessee (18-4, 5-4) on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
