NORMAN – One of the most decorated and accomplished collegiate gymnasts in history, University of Oklahoma alumnus Steven Legendre was named to the College Gymnastics Association's 2025 hall of fame class, the CGA announced Friday.

The 2011 Nissen-Emery Award winner and a member of Oklahoma's 2008 national championship team, Legendre won six individual national titles and was a 12-time All-American. When he completed his OU career, he was tied with Jonathan Horton for most individual national championships in program history and ranked third in program annals with his 12 All-America honors. He also competed with Team USA at four World Championships and won a silver medal on vault in 2013.

Legendre is Oklahoma's second gymnast selected for the CGA Hall of Fame, which was established in 2024. Horton was inducted as a member of the inaugural class last year.

Legendre won three consecutive floor exercise national titles from 2008-10, won two straight vault titles in 2008 and '09, and won the individual all-around championship in 2009. He earned All-America status on three events in each of his four seasons with the Sooners. He was a four-time All-American on floor exercise, a three-time All-American in the all-around and on vault and a two-time All-American on high bar. He also won four individual MPSF championships (floor exercise in 2008, '10 and '11 and vault in 2009).

As a freshman in 2008, Legendre scored a career-high 16.400 to lead the Sooners' No. 1-ranked vault team to a 64.150 on their way to the program's eighth national championship. That season, he became the first freshman in program history to win two NCAA event titles. He was also just the fourth Sooner to win multiple national championships in the same season.

Legendre later served as a volunteer coach at OU in 2014 and as a full-time assistant coach from 2016-18. He helped guide the Sooners to three straight national championships, as part of a run of four consecutive titles from 2015-18. He and fellow assistant coach Taqiy Abdullah-Simmons were named the 2016 national Assistant Coaches of the Year. As both an athlete and as a coach, Legendre was a part of four of the program's 12 national championships and five of OU's 27 conference titles.

Competing internationally, Legendre was a member of four straight Team USA World Championships squads from 2009-11 and again in 2013, was an alternate for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team and competed at the 2015 Pan American Games with Team USA. He won a team bronze medal at the World Championships in 2011 and team gold at the Pan American Games in 2015. Individually, he won silver on vault and placed fifth on floor exercise at the 2013 World Championships. He also won gold with Team USA at the 2010 Pacific Rim Championships and won vault gold at the 2012 China World Cup.

Additionally, Legendre won the 2010 U.S. vault championship and the 2013 and 2015 U.S. floor exercise titles and was a silver medalist on floor exercise at the U.S Championships in 2012. He also won four gold medals at Winter Cup (floor exercise in 2012, '15 and '16; vault in 2012), five silver medals (all-around in 2012 and '15; vault in 2013, '15 and '16) and a bronze (still rings in 2015).

Originally from Port Jefferson, N.Y., Legendre trained at WOGA in Dallas for two years before attending the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from OU in 2011 and currently resides in Norman, where he serves as a firefighter.

The 2025 CGA Hall of Fame class will be officially inducted in April during the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Statement from OU Head Coach Mark Williams:
"Steven Legendre was part of a national championship team, was a three-time individual national champion on floor exercise, a World Championship medalist, an Olympic alternate and a consummate great teammate. He worked hard every day in practice and earned the respect of the gymnastics community. To be honored by the Hall of Fame and the College Gymnastics Association is certainly in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments through his college career at Oklahoma. This is well-deserved in every aspect. Steven was just an Oklahoma guy through and through, and we're really honored that he is being recognized as part of the second hall of fame class."
