NORMAN – With a career-high on vault and an impressive 39.625 in the all-around Friday night, junior
Faith Torrez claimed her second-straight SEC Gymnast of the Week honor.
Five Sooners have now claimed a total of seven weekly honors, including at least one in every week of the season. Oklahoma's four gymnast of the week accolades are the most of any school.
For the second week in a row, Torrez claimed three individual titles as she helped lead OU to a 198.825-197.225 victory over Kentucky last Friday. The Bristol, Wis., native, claimed the all-around, vault and floor titles to bring her season total to a team-best 13.
Torrez stuck her vault for the third week in a row and was rewarded with a career-high 9.975. On floor, she added a 9.95 for her fifth-straight mark of 9.9 or higher on the event and third 9.95 of the season. In the all-around, her 39.625 was her fifth mark of 39.600 or higher on the year. Torrez also added a 9.875 on bars and a 9.825 on beam to help OU to its second-highest score of the season.
The Sooners are back in action on Friday, Feb. 14, when they travel to No. 2 LSU for an 8 p.m. CT meet on ESPN2.
