NORMAN – University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics sophomore
Francisco Velez Belendez and alumnus Vitaliy Guimaraes will compete at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, which run Oct. 19-25 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Velez Belendez will represent Puerto Rico in the still rings competition, which begins with a qualifying session at 10 p.m. CDT on Sunday (10 a.m. WIT Monday). Guimaraes, who competed at OU from 2019-23, will represent Brazil on pommel horse and parallel bars, beginning with a qualifying session that gets underway at 11:50 p.m. CDT Saturday.
The top eight qualifiers on each apparatus (limited to two per country) will advance to event finals. The pommel horse and still rings finals will be held Friday, Oct. 24 at 2 a.m. CDT, while the parallel bars final will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 a.m. CDT.

Velez Belendez won silver on rings with Puerto Rico at the Pan American Championships in Panama this summer. Guimaraes also competed with Brazil at the Pan American Championships this summer.
