Keira Wells earned the program's first SEC honor as she was named the SEC Specialist of the Week after a strong opening weekend of competition.
In a meet featuring three top 25 teams, the Sooners posted the highest score of opening weekend with a 197.550. Wells came out strong on vault and posted the highest score of the meet to claim the event title with a 9.95 on her Yurchenko 1.5.
Wells' 9.95 was a career high for the sophomore and tied for the highest score in the nation on the event. She helped the team to a 49.450 on the event, the highest score in the country. On beam, the Augusta, Kan., native was steady in the No. 2 spot to earn a 9.800.
The Sooners will return to the floor this Saturday, Jan. 11, for the Sprouts Farmer's Market Collegiate Quad against No. 2 LSU, No. 4 Utah and No. 6 California. The meet will air at 3 p.m. CT on ABC from the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The home slate is set to begin on Friday, Jan. 17, against Missouri inside Lloyd Noble Center.
