Oklahoma Falls to Stanford in ITA Kickoff Finals

NORMAN – The No. 8 Oklahoma men's tennis team fell short against No. 18 Stanford in the ITA Kickoff Weekend championship match, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The Sooners took an initial 1-0 lead, clinching the doubles point with wins at the two and three spots. Junior Luis Alvarez and sophomore Kholo Montsi took a 6-2 win to give OU an advantage before sophomore Asahi Harazaki and freshman Alejandro Melero sealed the win with a 6-3 victory. When play was stalled, junior Bruno Nhavene and freshman Oscar Lacides' match on court one was tied at five games all.
The Sooners dropped the first set in all six matches to fall behind early. Nhavene dropped his match, 6-3, 6-2 as the Cardinal tied things at 1-all. Freshman Orel Kimhi fell 6-2, 6-1, giving Stanford its first lead of the match.
At the No. 2 spot, Alvarez dropped his match 6-3, 6-2, allowing Stanford to go up 3-1. After dropping his first set, Lacides had an early 3-2 lead in the second before ultimately falling, 6-4, 6-4.

The Sooners take on Air Force and Oral Roberts in a doubleheader on their home courts on Saturday, Feb. 1 at noon and 4 p.m.
