Sooners Sweep First MPSF Awards of 2025

NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team swept the first set of MPSF weekly awards for the 2025 season, as senior Brigham Frentheway was named Gymnast of the Week, junior Ignacio Yockers was named Specialist of the Week and redshirt freshman Arthur Ballon was named Freshman of the Week, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced Tuesday.

Frentheway registered a four-score total of 54.500 to lead Oklahoma to a season-opening win over Air Force on Sunday. His effort helped the Sooners post the highest score in the country through the first weekend of competition. The Cheyenne, Wyo., product won the floor exercise title and finished in the top three on each of his four events. He notched a 13.700 to anchor floor exercise and followed with a career-high 13.450 on rings. He anchored OU's vault rotation with a 14.200 to place second, then closed with a 13.150 on high bar. Frentheway is tied for second nationally on floor exercise, ranks fourth on rings, is tied for fourth on vault and is ninth on high bar.

Yockers won the pommel horse title with a 14.450, which was the second-highest score nationally during the first weekend (by 0.050 points). The Tulsa, Okla., product also scored 12.750 on parallel bars and 12.300 on horizontal bar. His high bar routine was his first ever in a collegiate meet, and he competed on the event as an alternate after an injury substitution during the rotation.

Ballon made his collegiate debut on Sunday, and hit a 14.300 to win the vault title. He also scored 13.550 on floor exercise in his first routine, and closed the meet with a 12.700 on high bar. The Lyon, France, product ranks second nationally on vault (by 0.050 points) and is tied for fourth on floor exercise.

Oklahoma travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend for the Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday, Jan. 18. The meet is set for a 7 p.m. CT start at the Air Force Academy. The Sooners return to McCasland Field House on Jan. 25 to face Illinois (5:45 p.m. start).
