OU Posts Another Top-25 Learfield Directors' Cup Finish

NORMAN – For the 21st time in 24 years, the University of Oklahoma earned a top-25 national finish in the Division I LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, placing 24th in 2023-24 with 805.75 points.
The Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today, and honors institutions maintaining a broad-based athletics program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. For Division I, 19 sports are counted, four of which must be baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball and women's volleyball. The next highest 15 (maximum) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.
The softball team won its eighth national title, posting a 59-7 record and sweeping Texas in the Women's College World Series Championship Series. Oklahoma has now captured six of the last eight national softball titles. Head coach Patty Gasso and her assistants were named NFCA Staff of the Year, and five Sooners received NFCA All-America honors.
Men's gymnastics tallied 85 points by advancing to its 24th consecutive NCAA Championships Finals and placing third under head coach Mark Williams. The top-three finish was OU's 22nd in the last 23 NCAA Championships.
K.J. Kindler's women's gymnastics squad earned 74.3 points after finishing the 2024 season 36-2 overall, recording an NCAA-record score of 198.950 at the Big 12 Championship and advancing to the NCAA Championships semifinals. The Sooners, who were ranked No. 1 the entire regular season, posted an NCAA-record 12 meet scores of 198 or higher. They also set an NCAA standard with their 198.500 national qualifying score.
Men's golf placed ninth at the national championship, earning 69 points and the program's seventh top-10 finish in eight years. Head coach Ryan Hybl's squad won the NCAA Rancho Sante Fe Regional to qualify for the program's 13th straight NCAA Championships – the second longest streak in the country.
Football earned 60 points by participating in the Valero Alamo Bowl in year two under head coach Brent Venables. The Sooners posted 10 wins for the 42nd time in program history.
Under first-year head coach Roger Kish, wrestling finished 23rd at the NCAA Championships, the program's best showing since 2016. Stephen Buchanan, who finished third at 197 pounds, became OU's first All-American since 2021 and the program's 278th all-time. The team finish netted the Sooners 50.5 points.
After winning its first-ever Big 12 regular season title, OU baseball hosted an NCAA regional for the first time since 2010 and earned 50 points. Skip Johnson was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
Women's basketball won its second straight Big 12 championship under the direction of head coach Jennie Baranczyk, and first outright since 2009, en route to a third consecutive NCAA Tournament. The Sooners advanced to the second round of the Big Dance to secure 50 points.
Men's and women's tennis also earned 50 points each after the squads advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament under head coaches Nick Crowell and Audra Cohen, respectively.
Women's track and field combined for 72 points during the indoor (42 points; 31st place) and outdoor (30 points; 44th place) seasons. The men's program added 67 total points during the indoor (27 points; 44th place) and outdoor (40 points; 32nd place) campaigns. The Sooners were led by first-year head coach James Thomas.
Women's golf, under Veronique Drouin-Luttrell, returned to the postseason by earning a spot in regional action to secure 28 points.
