Thirty-nine Sooners Named to Winter Academic All-Big 12 Team

NORMAN – Thirty-nine University of Oklahoma student-athletes have been named to the 2024 Winter Academic All-Big 12 Teams, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The teams recognize the academic accomplishments of student-athletes who participate in winter sports. OU's 39 honorees are comprised of student-athletes across five winter sports: men's basketball (3), women's basketball (7), wrestling (8), men's gymnastics (12) and women's gymnastics (9). Thirty-one OU student-athletes were named to the first team and eight were named to the second team.
Seven of the 60 Big 12 student-athletes nominated with a 4.00 grade point average are from OU. The Sooners with perfect GPAs are Matthew Burgoyne (men's gymnastics), Zachary Marckx (men's gymnastics), Ignacio Yockers (men's gymnastics), Bell Johnson (women's gymnastics), Katherine LeVasseur (women's gymnastics), Sheridan Ramsey (women's gymnastics) and Meilin Sullivan (women's gymnastics).
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulatively or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 20% of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
