NORMAN — University of Oklahoma student-athletes continued their tradition of academic excellence during the spring 2024 semester by earning a school-record 3.27 cumulative GPA, the OU Athletics Department announced Tuesday. The performance eclipsed the previous record of 3.25 set in spring 2023 and represented the 25th consecutive semester OU student-athletes maintained a GPA above 3.0.
OU's streak of student-athletes posting at least a 3.0 GPA began in spring 2012. The 3.27 cumulative spring GPA reflects the overall academic performance of those student-athletes from their first semester of collegiate enrollment through the completion of the spring 2024 term.
Eighteen of OU's 19 athletics teams posted better than a 3.0 cumulative GPA, including football, which posted the program's highest-ever cumulative GPA of 3.03.
"This past semester's record-breaking cumulative GPA of 3.27 goes to show how special our student-athletes are and how supportive our staff is," said OU Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione. "At a time when education in college athletics is sometimes undervalued or forgotten, it's certainly encouraging here at Oklahoma that we're continuing to improve upon our record performances in the classroom. I couldn't be prouder of everyone who had a hand in this. It takes a lot of work, buy-in and commitment by a number of people, most notably our student-athletes. Each of them deserves huge congratulations for their effort and achievement."
Following are some additional spring semester academic accomplishments of OU student-athletes:
• Of the 537 student-athletes at Oklahoma, 377 (70%) earned a 3.00 or higher semester GPA.
• A total of 101 student-athletes (19%) registered a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring 2024 semester.
• OU student-athletes have collectively earned a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or higher in 12 of the last 13 semesters and a 3.20 or higher each of the last five semesters.
