NORMAN – A fantastic start from senior right-hander
Nicole May and a two-homer effort from freshman outfielder
Kasidi Pickering led the No. 2-ranked Oklahoma softball team to a 9-0 run-rule win over Cleveland State on Friday evening at the NCAA Norman Regional.
The Sooners (50-6) walked off CSU (22-25) with a two-run
Tiare Jennings home run in the sixth. Jennings' two RBIs moved her into fifth in NCAA history, tying her with Sierra Romero at 304 runs batted in. OU out-hit Cleveland State 11-3 while recording its 22nd shutout and 25th run-rule win of the season.
May improved to 13-2 on the season with 5.0 innings of three-hit ball, scattering three hits and walking none while striking out nine. The right-hander threw 50 of her 72 pitches for strikes, working at a 69.4% strike rate on the evening.
Pickering (3-for-3, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI) piled up three hits alongside her first career multi-homer game.
Rylie Boone (2-for-3, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI),
Ella Parker (2-for-4, R, 2B, 3 RBI) and Jennings (2-for-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) each added multi-hit games to support the Sooner effort.
Oklahoma opened the scoring in the second on a towering opposite-field solo shot off the bat of Pickering. The lineup tacked on three more in the fourth courtesy of three straight two-out RBI hits from Boone, Coleman and Parker.
Pickering pushed the OU lead to 5-0 in the fifth with her second home run of the game, then Jennings capped off a four-run sixth with her monster two-run walk-off shot.
Graduate right-hander
Karlie Keeney added a three-up, three-down top-of-the-sixth and struck out one.
