NORMAN – Six Oklahoma men's gymnasts earned a total of nine all-conference honors from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation following the MPSF Championship on Saturday, the league office announced Monday.
Redshirt sophomore
Fuzzy Benas earned All-MPSF honors in the all-around and on still rings, vault and parallel bars. Two-time MPSF floor exercise champion
Emre Dodanli received all-conference accolades on floor, while pommel horse champion
Ignacio Yockers and horizontal bar champion
Kelton Christiansen earned all-conference honors on their respective events. Fifth-year senior
Jack Freeman earned all-conference honors on high bar and freshman
Max Bereznev was named to the all-conference vault team.
The top gymnast from each school in each event at the MPSF Championship was an automatic selection, and one additional gymnast per event was chosen as an at-large selection, based on the highest remaining score regardless of team.
Benas placed third in the all-around with a score of 83.700, his second highest total of the season. The Richmond, Texas, product also placed third on rings with his career-high 14.250, vault with his 14.650 and parallel bars with his 14.350. He was an automatic all-conference selection on all three events and in the all-around.
Dodanli won the MPSF floor exercise title for the second straight year with his 14.950 routine. He also scored 14.250 on vault, a 13.950 on parallel bars and a 13.650 on high bar to total an impressive 56.800 on his four events. The junior from Milton, Ontario, was an automatic all-conference selection on floor exercise.
Yockers and Christiansen both won their first career conference event titles on Saturday. Yockers won pommel horse with his 15.150 routine. The sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., was voted the MPSF Specialist of the Year for the second straight season and was an automatic all-conference selection on pommel horse. Christiansen, a sophomore from Arvada, Colo., won high bar with his 14.100 score, earning automatic all-conference status.
A Palestine, Texas, product, Freeman scored a 14.000 on high bar to earn the silver medal in the event on Saturday and claim automatic all-conference accolades. Bereznev, a freshman from Woodstock, Ga., scored a 14.600 on vault to place fourth on the event and earn at-large all-conference honors.
No. 2 Oklahoma will next compete at the NCAA Championships, which will be held April 19-20 in Columbus, Ohio. Official selections for the NCAA Championships are expected to be announced this week.
