Davis Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

NORMAN — Oklahoma junior left-handed pitcher Braden Davis was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced the weekly honors Monday.

Davis earns his first career Big 12 weekly award after an exceptional Friday night start vs. Texas in OU's 9-4 series-opening win. The Keller, Texas, product surrendered just one run in six innings while striking out nine, including striking out the side to finish his night in the sixth inning. Davis scattered seven hits and three walks, collecting his fifth win of the season and third straight start with a victory.

The lefty has struck out eight or more batters in six of his nine starts on the year and ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 54 strikeouts in conference play. Additionally, Davis is tied for second in the conference with four wins (4-1) in Big 12 play. On the year, Davis has 76 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched, allowing the opposition to bat just .220.

Davis and No. 22 Oklahoma returns to action Tuesday night in Tulsa vs. Oral Roberts. The game is slated for a 6 p.m. CT first pitch and can be seen on the Summit League Network($) and heard locally in Oklahoma on SportsTalk 1400 AM/99.3 FM or nationwide on The Varsity app.

The Sooners return to Big 12 play this weekend, May 3-5, at Texas Tech.
