NORMAN – Junior
Jordan Bowers has been named a finalist for the 2024 Honda Sport Award for Gymnastics, announced Tuesday by the Collegiate Women Sports Award (CWSA).
Bowers is joined by Haleigh Bryant (LSU), Jade Carey (Oregon State) and Leanne Wong (Florida) as finalists for the prestigious award. Bowers is the first Honda Award finalist for the Sooners since Anastasia Webb in 2021.
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 48 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies "the best of the best in collegiate athletics". The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2024 Honda Cup.
The nominees were chosen by a panel of coaches representing the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W). The Honda Sport Award winner for Gymnastics will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
Bowers had a breakout junior season, competing the all-around in every meet at a 98% hit rate (63-of-64). At the NCAA Championships, she earned first-team All-America honors on floor and bars after placing second and third, respectively, on the events.
The 2024 South Central Region Gymnast of the Year and Big 12 Gymnast of the Year, Bowers helped lead OU to its 23
rd overall NCAA Championships appearance, 14
th-straight regional title and 15
th Big 12 Championship. At the Big 12 Championship, Bowers led the Sooners to an NCAA record 198.950 after collecting perfect scores on vault, bars and floor to earn three individual conference titles.
As a junior, Bowers earned six perfect 10s, bringing her career total to nine. This season, she tallied two on bars, one on vault and thee on floor. Her three floor perfect 10s have happened in consecutive meets, dating back to March 10 at Arkansas. With four career perfect 10s on floor, she now boasts the most perfect 10s on the event in OU history. Her 10.0s on all three events this season have given her multiple 10s on vault, bars and floor, making her just the second gymnast in OU history to earn multiple 10s on three events.
Bowers excelled in the all-around, earning a career high 39.925 at the Big 12 Championships, tying the record for fourth-best score in NCAA history and the highest all-around mark in 2024. Along with her Big 12 all-around title, she also earned the regional all-around crown and finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in the nation.
The CWSA, entering its 48th year, has honored the nation's top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women's athletics programs.
Bowers will look to become just the fifth Sooner to earn the Honda Sport Award for women's gymnastics. Kelly Garrison received the honor in 1987 and 1988, Maggie Nichols claimed it in 2019 and Webb was the 2021 winner and Top Three Finalist. Keilani Ricketts (softball, 2012 & 2013) and Jocelyn Alo (softball, 2022) are the only other Sooners to have earned a Honda Sport Award.
