NORMAN – Senior
Ragan Smith was named the Big 12 Co-Gymnast of the Week after an incredible weekend that saw her extend her streak to four-consecutive perfect 10s on balance beam. Smith shared the honor with Denver's Jessica Hutchinson. This is the third career Gymnast of the Week honor for Smith and eighth overall.
The fifth-year senior helped the Sooners to a pair of victories on the weekend, defeating No. 7 Michigan at home on March 1 and picking up three victories on Sunday in a quad meet at Texas Woman's with Clemson and Penn.
Smith cemented herself even further in the record books, earning her third and fourth-straight perfect 10s on beam. Her perfect score on Friday moved her into first place all-time in OU gymnastics history with eight perfect scores on beam. On Sunday, she earned her fourth-straight perfect 10, moving into a tie for most perfect scores on any event by any gymnast in OU history. Smith is now the only gymnast in school history to ever earn four-straight perfect 10s on any event. Smith's four perfect scores this season are tied for most by any athlete (Haleigh Bryant – LUS – four across three events) and are the most by an athlete on a single event.
The senior ranks No. 1 in the nation on the event with an incredible 9.990 NQS. Smith's 10 on Friday helped the Sooners to tie the program record once again on beam with a 49.800 team score. On Sunday, her perfect score led OU to a 49.675 on the event to bolster their NQS to a nation-leading 49.700.
Smith and the Sooners are back in action Sunday, March 10, in Fayetteville, Ark., to take on No. 12 Arkansas. The meet is set for 3:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
