March 06, 2024 | Men's Gymnastics

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics freshman Nico Hamilton was named the CGA national Co-Rookie of the Week after totaling 28.400 on his two events Saturday at Michigan, the College Gymnastics Association announced Wednesday.

A Grapevine, Texas, product, Hamilton registered a career-high 14.800 on floor exercise and notched a 13.600 on parallel bars. His floor exercise tally included an incredible 9.5 execution score on the routine, and a stick bonus on the dismount. He is only the second gymnast nationally to score at least 14.800 on floor exercise this season. Hamilton ranks fifth nationally in floor exercise with his three-score average of 14.250. He was also named the MPSF Freshman of the Week.

This is the sixth time this season an OU gymnast has earned a national honor from the CGA. Redshirt sophomore Fuzzy Benas was named Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 24 and Feb. 28, junior Emre Dodanli was named Specialist of the Week on Jan. 31, freshman Colin Flores was named Rookie of the Week on Feb. 7 and sophomore Ignacio Yockers was named Specialist of the Week on Feb. 14.

The Sooners return home to McCasland Field House on Saturday to take on No. 9 Navy at 5:45 p.m. It will be Senior Night and Alumni Night, as the Sooners will honor their seniors after the meet and welcome alumni back to the Field House. Fans will have the opportunity to take photos with OU's national championship trophies, and recently elected CGA Hall of Famer Jonathan Horton will be on hand signing autographs prior to the meet.
