NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team remained No. 1 in the national rankings for Week 9 with its three-score average unchanged at 416.550. Teams and individuals are ranked again this week based on the average of their three highest scores in regular season competition.
The Sooners have registered the two highest team scores in the nation this season with their 420.350 at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 20 and their 417.800 on Feb. 10. OU's three-score average also includes a 411.500 recorded on Feb. 3.
Oklahoma, which leads the nation in three events, sits ahead of No. 2 Illinois (413.483), No. 3 Stanford (413.300), No. 4 Michigan (413.050) and No. 5 Nebraska (410.217). Only teams and individuals who have three qualifying scores on each event and the all-around are listed in the national rankings.
The Sooners hold the national lead on floor exercise (average increased to 70.467), pommel horse (69.867) and horizontal bar (average increased to 69.967). OU ranks second on vault (72.483), third on parallel bars (average increased to 69.250) and fifth on still rings (67.383).
Individually, redshirt sophomore
Fuzzy Benas leads the nation in the all-around with his 83.833 average, which includes a nation-leading high score of 85.200 set on Jan. 20.
Junior
Emre Dodanli leads the nation in floor exercise with his 15.067 average. He has recorded each of the three highest floor scores nationally this season, including his 14.900 on Saturday. He has scored higher than 15.000 on floor exercise twice this season and remains the only gymnast nationally to do so even once since the 2021 campaign.
Freshman
Nico Hamilton ranks fifth nationally on floor exercise with his 14.250 average. He stuck a 14.800 on Saturday, and is only the second gymnast in the country this season to score at least that high on floor exercise (Dodanli is the other). Fifth-year senior
Jack Freeman ranks 10th with his average of 14.117.
Sophomore
Ignacio Yockers holds the national lead on pommel horse with his 15.083 average, while senior
Zach Nunez ranks fourth with a 14.383 average. Freshman
Tas Hajdu ranks sixth on still rings (14.033). On vault, Dodanli ranks fifth (14.783) and freshman
Max Bereznev ranks ninth (14.717), while Benas sits just outside the top 10 with his 14.700 average.
Benas ranks third in the country on parallel bars (14.500) and Freeman ranks second nationally on high bar (14.350). Sophomore
Kelton Christiansen also ranks fourth (14.300), Dodanli ranks sixth (14.133) and Benas ranks eighth (14.083) on high bar.
The Sooners return home to McCasland Field House on Saturday to take on No. 9 Navy at 5:45 p.m. It will be Senior Night and Alumni Night, as the Sooners will honor their seniors after the meet and welcome alumni back to the Field House. Fans will have the opportunity to take photos with OU's national championship trophies, and recently elected CGA Hall of Famer Jonathan Horton will be on hand signing autographs prior to the meet.
