NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis head coach Audra Cohen and the Sooners welcomed Cara Mester to the program for the 2024-25 season today.
Mester, who hails from Romania, has climbed as high as No. 40 in the ITF junior rankings while having a WTA career-high of 1060 in singles and 1422 in doubles.
"We are extremely excited to add Cara to our team," Cohen said. "She's a hardworking and humble person from a great family. On the court, she's an athletic lefty with great variety and big potential to develop more weaponry in college. She will have an immediate impact on our program, and we can't wait to get her here!"
Mester has won two singles titles, including the Cairo J1, and nine doubles titles, including Klosters, in her junior's career. Additionally, Mester has made appearances in all four Junior Grand Slam tournaments: Australian Open, Roland Garros, US Open and Wimbledon.
"I chose OU not only because of the amazing players and coaches on the team that will help me improve on and off the court, but also because they offer something special; a family away from home," Mester said." I can't wait to start this journey. Boomer Sooner!"
The Sooners are currently 10-5 (5-2 Big 12) for the 2024 season and are set to open a two-match road trip this week. They first face Iowa State on Thursday, and quickly turn around for a match with Kansas on Saturday. Both matches will see a 12 p.m. CT first serve.
