Freeman Named Nissen-Emery Award Finalist

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics fifth-year senior Jack Freeman was named a finalist for the prestigious Nissen-Emery Award, which is presented annually to the year's outstanding senior collegiate gymnast, the College Gymnastics Association announced Saturday morning.
 
Freeman is a senior captain at Oklahoma, a three-time All-American and three-time Regular Season All-American and a six-time Winter Cup participant.
 
The Palestine, Texas, product is a three-time medalist at the NCAA Championships with OU, winning the team silver medal twice (2021 and '22) and an individual bronze medal on high bar in 2022. Freeman is also a three-time All-American on high bar (2021, '22 and '23), a two-time CGA Regular Season All-American on high bar (2022 and '23) and a CGA Regular Season All-American on floor exercise (2023).
 
Freeman has won eight career event titles (seven on high bar and one in the all-around). As of March 11, he is ranked third nationally on high bar and seventh nationally on floor exercise. He has received MPSF conference weekly accolades three times in his career.
 
At 2022 Winter Cup, Freeman won the high bar title with a two-day total of 27.850. In 2024, he placed fourth in high bar with a two-day total of 27.450. He has competed in six of the last seven Winter Cups, including in the all-around in 2020.
 
Freeman is pursuing his bachelor's degree in psychology and is expected to graduate in May.
 
Since 1966, the Nissen-Emery Award, the "Heisman Trophy" of gymnastics, has been presented to the collegiate senior gymnast who has established an outstanding record of achievement during his college career. The winner must also exhibit good sportsmanship and fair play and maintain a high standard of scholarship throughout his college career. The award presentation is held annually at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships.
 
Oklahoma has produced eight Nissen-Emery Award winners: Bart Conner (1981), Jarrod Hanks (1991), Daniel Fink (1998), Todd Bishop (1999), Daniel Furney (2003), Jonathan Horton (2008), Steven Legendre (2011) and Yul Moldauer (2019).
