NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics freshman
Colin Flores has been named the CGA Rookie of the Week after winning the all-around title in OU's victory over No. 6 Ohio State and Arizona State on Saturday, the College Gymnastics Association announced Wednesday.
Flores, who was also named the MPSF Freshman of the Week, won the all-around title Saturday night with a score of 80.300. It was the second all-around score above 80 in as many tries by the true freshman. He notched a career high on vault (14.550) and tied his career high on parallel bars (14.200) to win the p-bars event title. The Mountain House, Calif., product is one of only two gymnasts nationally to register two all-around scores of 80 or higher this season. He has qualified to compete at USA Gymnastics Winter Cup, which will be held Feb. 23-25 in Louisville.
This is the third straight week in which an OU gymnast has earned a national honor from the CGA. Redshirt sophomore
Fuzzy Benas was named Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 24 and junior
Emre Dodanli was named Specialist of the Week on Jan. 31.
Oklahoma will compete at McCasland Field House again Saturday against MPSF foe California. The meet is set for a 1:45 p.m. start.
