In Sunday's match with No. 5 North Carolina State, Garcia Ruiz earned another ranked singles win, topping No. 30 Abigail Rencheli, 6-3, 6-2. On the second doubles court, Garcia Ruiz and Safarova led the No. 9 duo of Anna Zyryanova and Sophie Abrams, 5-2, as the Sooners clinched the doubles point, leaving their match unfinished. Oklahoma ended the day with a 4-2 victory.
This is Garcia Ruiz's first career Big 12 Player of the Week honor, and she becomes the first Sooner to win the award this season.
