NORMAN – Heading into the Winter Cup break this week, the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team remained No. 1 the national rankings with its three-score average holding steady at 416.550. Teams and individuals are ranked again this week based on the average of their three highest scores in regular season competition.
The Sooners have registered the two highest team scores in the nation this season with their 420.350 at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 20 and their 417.800 on Feb. 10. OU's three-score average also includes a 411.500 recorded on Feb. 3.
Oklahoma, which leads the nation in three events, sits ahead of No. 2 Stanford (413.117), No. 3 Illinois (412.383), No. 4 Michigan (410.200) and No. 5 Nebraska (409.767). Only teams and individuals who have three qualifying scores on each event and the all-around are listed in the national rankings.
The Sooners hold the national lead on floor exercise (69.817), pommel horse (69.867) and horizontal bar (69.483), and rank second on vault (72.483), third on parallel bars (68.950) and fifth on still rings (67.383). OU recorded its second-highest vault score of the season on Saturday (72.400).
Individually, junior
Emre Dodanli leads the nation on floor exercise with his 15.017 average. He has scored better than 15.000 on floor exercise twice this season and remains the only gymnast nationally to do so even once. Sophomore
Ignacio Yockers holds the national lead on pommel horse with his 15.083 average.
Elsewhere in the national rankings, sophomore
Kelton Christiansen ranks second on high bar (14.300), while fifth-year senior
Jack Freeman ranks fifth (14.167) and Dodanli ranks sixth (14.133). Freeman ranks seventh on floor (14.050), senior
Zach Nunez ranks fourth on pommel horse (14.567) and redshirt sophomore
Fuzzy Benas ranks third on parallel bars (14.417). Dodanli (14.783), freshman
Max Bereznev (14.717) and Benas (14.667) rank fifth, seventh and ninth on vault, respectively. On rings, freshman
Tas Hajdu ranks fourth (14.033) and sophomore
Adriel Perales-Valencia ranks 10th (13.817).
The Sooners take a break from NCAA team competition this weekend for USA Gymnastics Winter Cup, which will be held Feb. 23-25 in Louisville, Ky.
