NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team remained atop the national rankings this week, after posting a 417.800 team all-around score in its victory over California on Saturday. OU's three-score average is 416.550.
The Sooners have registered the two highest team scores in the nation this season with their 417.800 on Saturday and their 420.350 at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 20.
Oklahoma, which leads the nation in three events, sits ahead of No. 2 Stanford (413.117), No. 3 Illinois (412.383), No. 4 Michigan (410.183) and No. 5 Nebraska (405.083). This is the first week of the season that teams and individuals are ranked based on their three highest scores of the season. Only teams and individuals who have three qualifying scores on each event and the all-around are listed in the national rankings.
The Sooners hold the national lead on floor exercise (69.817), pommel horse (69.867) and horizontal bar (69.483), and rank second on vault (72.400), third on parallel bars (68.950) and fifth on still rings (67.383). OU set season highs on both vault (72.85) and high bar (70.950) Saturday, notching its best high bar score since the 2019 season.
Individually, junior
Emre Dodanli leads the nation on floor exercise with his 15.017 average. He has scored better than 15.000 on floor exercise twice this season and is the only gymnast nationally to do so even once. Sophomore
Ignacio Yockers leads the nation on pommel horse with his 15.033 average after scoring a nation-leading 15.450 on the event Saturday night. Sophomore
Kelton Christiansen has taken over the top spot on high bar with his 14.200 average after notching a career-high 14.700 Saturday night.
Elsewhere in the national rankings, fifth-year senior
Jack Freeman ranks sixth on floor exercise (14.050) and senior
Zach Nunez ranks fourth on pommel horse (14.567). On rings, freshman
Tas Hajdu ranks fourth (14.033) and sophomore
Adriel Perales-Valencia ranks ninth (13.817). On vault, Dodanli ranks fourth (14.783) and Benas eighth (14.667), while Benas is second on parallel bars (14.417). Freshman
Colin Flores ranks sixth on p-bars (14.067), and on high bar, Freeman ranks third (14.167) and Dodanli ranks fourth (14.133).
The Sooners travel to Indianola, Iowa, next Saturday for a meet at Simpson College. The meet is set for a 1 p.m. start.
