NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis head coach Audra Cohen and the Sooners welcomed Laura Brunkel to the program for the fall 2025 season today.

Brunkel, who hails from Copenhagen, Denmark, has climbed as high as No. 100 in the ITF junior rankings while having a WTA career-high of 1060 in singles.

"We are beyond excited that Laura chose to be a part of our Sooner family," Cohen said. "Laura's professionalism and work ethic are top notch and this coupled with her incredible tennis level, will have an immediate impact on our program. We are really looking forward to welcoming her on campus in fall 2025."

This year, Brunkel competed at three Junior Grand Slams: The Australian Open Junior Championships, US Open Junior Championships and Wimbledon Junior Championships. At the Australian Open Junior championships, Brunkel advanced to the main draw in both singles and doubles. In 2023, she won the J60 Malmo, her first juniors singles title.

Brunkel has won nine junior ITF doubles titles and recently represented Denmark on the national stage in the Billie Jean King Cup, the largest annual international team competition in women's sports.

"I can't wait to start a new chapter of my life at OU with such an amazing group of people around me," Brunkel said. "The unique thing about OU is not only the amazing team but the atmosphere and the special bond they all have together. I want to thank everyone who made it possible for me to get this far. See you in the fall of 2025! Boomer Sooner!"

The Sooners will return to the court in January for spring duals. A schedule will be released at a later date.
