Beers Sweeps National and SEC Weekly Honors

November 12, 2024 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – After a dominant two-game start to the season, Oklahoma center Raegan Beers claimed multiple prestigious weekly honors, various publications announced Tuesday.

The All-American was named the Associated Press National Player of the Week, the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and to the USBWA National Starting Five of the Week.

Beers is the first Oklahoma women's basketball player to earn an SEC weekly award and the first Sooner since Courtney Paris to win a national player of the week honor. It's the junior All-American's seventh weekly award, adding to the six Pac-12 player/freshman of the week honors she earned at Oregon State.

Beers led No. 9 Oklahoma to two season-opening wins last week, including a 44-point victory over Virginia. The center posted back-to-back double-doubles, averaging 23.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. She shot 70.4% from the field and 50.0% from deep, becoming the first Sooner since Paris to record consecutive 20-point, 14-rebound games and surpassing 1,000 career points in the win over Virginia. Entering week two of the 2024-25 season, Beers is the only SEC player ranked in the league's top five in points and rebounds per game with multiple games played.

Joining Beers on the USBWA Starting Five is Destiny Adams (Rutgers), Diamond Johnson (Norfolk State), Lauren Betts (UCLA) and Olivia Miles (Notre Dame).

Additionally announced on Tuesday, Beers was named to the 15-player watch list for the nation's highest honor – the Wade Trophy.

Beers and the Sooners rose to No. 9 in Monday's AP Top 25, the program's highest ranking since a No. 4 finish in 2009. Oklahoma's active streak of 10 straight poll appearances is its ninth-longest ever.

Oklahoma returns to the court on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. CT to host Western Carolina (3-0) at Lloyd Noble Center for its annual Field Trip/Education Day Game. The game will air on SECN+.
