NORMAN — The Oklahoma wrestling team kicked off the 2024-25 season with its annual Crimson and Cream Dual Friday night inside McCasland Field House.
Two of the 10 bouts on the evening produced bonus point victories, while seven of Oklahoma's newcomers competed in a Sooner singlet for the first time.
"We saw some good things tonight," second-year head coach Roger Kish said following the scrimmage. "The guys wrestled with energy, and it allowed us coaches to identify areas of improvement as we start our season."
The night began with a meeting in the 184-pound weight class between redshirt freshman Eli Cordy and senior Seth Seago. Seago picked up a 5-3 decision, before dropping a 17-5 major decision to redshirt junior DJ Parker in the eighth match of the evening. Parker, who did not compete last season due to injury, earned five takedowns in a dominating effort which rewarded Team Cream with four points in the team race.
Next up, senior Antonio Lorenzo secured a 5-4 decision over sophomore Conrad Hendriksen in a tightly contested 125-pound match. Lorenzo, who redshirted last season after transferring from Cal Poly, scored an escape point in overtime to secure the win in his OU debut.
Incoming transfers Cleveland Belton (Oregon State), Carter Schubert (Cal Baptist), Gaven Sax (North Dakota State) and Bradley Hill (Iowa) went undefeated on the night. The quartet of Sooners combined to outscore their opponents 27-9.
At 149 pounds, returning NCAA qualifier Willie McDougald notched a 4-2 decision over redshirt freshman KJ Evans, while junior Mannix Morgan topped true freshman Clay Giddens (7-3 Dec.) in the 165-pound bout.
Wrestling at 285 pounds, junior Juan Mora concluded the scrimmage with a 6-0 decision over Ryder Wiese in a clash among the heavyweights.
The Sooners, ranked No. 22 in the preseason NWCA Coaches Poll, will start the season at Air Force on Friday, Nov. 8.
