NORMAN – Oklahoma women's gymnastics is set for a thrilling and challenging schedule as the six-time national champions compete in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) for the first time in 2025.
Head coach K.J. Kindler revealed Thursday the Sooners' full competition schedule featuring matchups against six teams who advanced to the 2024 NCAA Championships, including defending national champion LSU, runner-up California and finalists Florida and Utah.
"This year's schedule highlights powerhouse matchups throughout," Kindler said. "There is no break in the action, and our stamina and mental fortitude will be tested. In addition to our challenging SEC schedule, we have sprinkled in three podium competition opportunities which will be invaluable when postseason approaches."
Opening day is set for Saturday, Jan. 4, in Nashville, Tenn., at the inaugural Music City Collegiate Championship. OU's opponents include new conference rival Auburn, BYU and Nebraska.
The most anticipated matchup of the season is in the Sooners' backyard, as the Sprouts Farmer's Market Collegiate Quad comes to Oklahoma City. Taking place inside the Paycom Center and airing on ABC, the competition will feature the Sooners alongside California, LSU and Utah. The podium meet is set for Saturday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. CT.
"We're thrilled that ESPN is supporting women's sports at the highest level and has chosen OKC for the highly anticipated Sprouts collegiate quad meet," Kindler said. "Competing in front of our fans in a setting like OKC elevates the experience for our athletes and connects us with the incredible community that surrounds Norman. This meet showcases four of the top eight teams from last season. It is a supreme opportunity for us to compete against big talent right out of the gate."
The first of Oklahoma's five home meets will also be OU's first SEC meet as the Sooners host Missouri inside Lloyd Noble Center on Jan. 17. The Sooners and Tigers will meet in conference action for the first time since 2012 when both teams were members of the Big 12.
"First and foremost, our team is on a mission to pack the LNC," Kindler said. "We want to create an atmosphere that is electric, stimulating and fan friendly. Sooner fans have always welcomed our opponents with an appreciation for the athleticism and artistry that is displayed in our sport. Our home schedule, as always, will demand our athletes' best. We want our fans to tip the scales by generating an unmatched energy that drives them to be their best."
OU continues SEC competition with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the Crimson Tide Jan. 24. The Sooners will close out the month of January at home, welcoming Arkansas to the LNC on Jan. 31.
February begins with the Sooners hosting Kentucky on Feb. 7 for Alumni Night.
OU will go on the road to LSU for the second time in 2024. The last two national champions will compete inside the Pete Maravich Center on Friday, Feb. 14.
The Sooners will have a double weekend in February, hosting Florida on Friday, Feb. 21, before making the trek to Fort Worth for the annual Metroplex Challenge on Feb. 23. OU will face North Carolina in another opportunity to compete on podium before postseason.
OU will head to Auburn for the first time since 2010 on Friday, Feb. 28.
The Sooners wrap up their home slate in exciting fashion, hosting Michigan at the LNC on March 7 for Senior Night.
The regular season ends on the road with the final SEC meet of the year as OU faces Georgia in Athens on March 14.
Fans will be able to watch OU women's gymnastics home meets on various ESPN networks, including select meets on SEC Network+. Additional television coverage will be announced at a later date.
The Sooners will compete at their first ever SEC Championships on March 22 at a location to be announced later.
"Entering the SEC has brought a whole new level of intensity to the gym," Kindler said. "Preseason training has elevated and there is a sense of buzz and excitement for what the year will bring. We expect to learn and grow in this inaugural season and are embracing the challenges ahead."
NCAA Regionals will be hosted by Alabama, Penn State, Utah and Washington in 2025. Regional competition will feature nine teams and begin on Wednesday, April 2, with two teams at each site competing in the first round. Eight teams will compete in two sessions of four in the second round, and the top two in each session will advance to the regional final. The top two teams from the regional final will advance to the NCAA Championship.
The 2025 NCAA Championship will be held at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, April 17-19. Four teams will compete in each semifinal on Thursday with the finals slated for Saturday.
Coming off a record-breaking season in 2024, the 2025 squad returns individual national champions Audrey Davis and Faith Torrez alongside fellow All-Americans Jordan Bowers and Keira Wells.
Davis opted to use her extra year provided by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic to return for a fifth season. In addition to the returners, the Sooners brought in stellar freshmen Elizabeth Blessey, Addison Fatta, Elle Mueller, Lily Pederson, Kelsey Slade and Addisyn Snow.
