Oklahoma upends defending national champs Oregon 3-1-1 in match play to win the 2017 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship at Rich Harvest Farms Course on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

NORMAN – Oklahoma men’s golf head coach Ryan Hybl, the winningest coach in program history and architect of OU’s 2017 national championship team, was named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Hall of Fame class of 2024 on Tuesday.

Hybl becomes the second Sooner coach to earn the prestigious honor, following Gregg Grost, who led Oklahoma to the 1989 national championship and was inducted in 2005.

Hired on June 22, 2009, Hybl inherited a program that finished 10th in the 2009 Big 12 Championship and has since returned the Sooners to the upper echelon of college golf, leading OU to a national championship in 2017, 13 consecutive NCAA Finals appearances and the 14-best single-season scoring records in program history. His 46 tournament wins are the 13th most in Division I men’s golf history and fourth among all active coaches.

The Colbert, Ga., product has coached 14 Sooners to 30 All-America honors, producing at least one honoree in all but two of his seasons as head coach. Additionally, he has developed 14 All-Big 12 honorees, one Haskins Award winner and seven PGA Tour U graduates. The recipient of the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year award in 2022, Hybl has guided Oklahoma to three Big 12 titles (2018, 2022, 2023) and four NCAA Regional crowns (2015, 2018, 2022, 2024). In addition to his teams’ on-course success, Hybl’s program has produced over 40 graduates at the University of Oklahoma.

His teams have ascended to No. 1 in the national rankings in six different seasons, including the active 2024-25 season where the Sooners are the consensus top team in the country.

Before joining Oklahoma, Hybl was an All-American golfer at the University of Georgia, playing under GCAA Hall of Famer Chris Haack. He later transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant under Haack in Athens. Starting his college coaching career in 2005, Hybl helped guide the Bulldogs to 18 team victories, including two SEC championships and the 2008 NCAA East Regional title, while making the NCAA Championship every year.

At UGA, Hybl coached 18 All-Americans, including Chris Kirk, the 2006 SEC Player of the Year and 2007 Ben Hogan Award winner. His players earned 12 First Team All-SEC honors, with three competing in multiple Arnold Palmer Cups, three participating in the Walker Cup and three consecutive SEC Freshman of the Year recipients.

As a player under Haack, Hybl lettered from 2001-04, twice garnering All-America and All-SEC honors. He concluded his career with a scoring average of 72.7 and 13 top-10 finishes. He also excelled academically, earning a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He earned the Joel Eaves Award as the male senior student-athlete with the highest-grade point average and the Dick Bestwick Award for the top GPA among graduating male seniors. Hybl was named to the Dean’s List, the President’s List and the SEC Academic Honor Roll, and he was chosen as a Cleveland Golf Scholar All-American. In addition, he won the team’s Howell Hollis Award three times for boasting the top GPA.
