NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics junior
Emre Dodanli was named the national Co-Specialist of the Week after scoring better than 14.100 on all three of his events in Sunday's meet at Illinois, the College Gymnastics Association announced Wednesday.
Dodanli, who was also named the MPSF Specialist of the Week, won titles on all of his three events to lead the Sooners on Sunday. He posted a career-high 14.750 on vault and notched a 14.500 on floor exercise and a 14.100 on the high bar to score a three-event total of 43.350.
Sunday's meet represented the second this season in which the Milton, Ontario, product has competed in three events and won all of them (the other was the season opener vs. Air Force). Dodanli, who has won seven individual event titles this season, leads the nation with his 14.833 average on floor exercise.
This is the second straight week in which an OU gymnast has earned a national honor from the CGA. Redshirt sophomore
Fuzzy Benas was named Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 24.
No. 2 Oklahoma returns home to McCasland Field House on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. for a tri-meet against No. 6 Ohio State and Arizona State. The meet is OU's annual Cleveland Elementary Night and also Safari Night, featuring a petting zoo with exotic animals, a balloon artist, face painters and a t-shirt giveaway, as well as $2 beers, sodas and popcorn.
