NORMAN ā Senior Audrey Davis and freshman Hannah Scheible were named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week and Event Specialist of the week, respectively, the conference announced Wednesday. This is the first weekly honor for Scheible and the seventh career honor for Davis.
Davis & Scheible were instrumental in leading the Sooners to a victory over an impressive field at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad. The Sooners recorded a 197.900, the highest score in the nation so far, winning by over half a tenth and defeating three preseason top five teams.
Davis earned a season-high on all four events and the all-around and was named the Team MVP at the end of the meet. On vault, she led off with a 9.85 on her Yurchenko 1.5. She recorded a season-best 39.625 in the all-around, placing second on the day. The senior was nearly perfect on the uneven bars, securing a season-high 9.975 to also tie her career high. On beam, she set a season best with a 9.9 to lead the Sooners to the highest beam score at the meet by over two-tenths with a 49.525. On floor, the senior earned a season high 9.9.
Scheible earned a career and season high on her front pike half vault with a 9.925. She is the only gymnast in the Big 12 to post a 9.925 or higher on vault through the first two meets of the season. She is the only Sooners to go 9.9 or better in both meets this season on the event. She currently ranks seventh in the nation on the event and is No. 1 in the Big 12.
The Sooners are back in action Sunday, Jan. 21, against No. 10 Denver, No. 11 UCLA and Stanford. The meet is set for a 3 p.m. CT start time inside Magness Arena in Denver, Colo.
