Men's Hoops Drops Top-10 Clash at No. 3 Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 9/9 Oklahoma men's basketball fell to No. 3/3 Kansas 78-66 in Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

The Jayhawks (14-2, 2-1 Big 12) raced out to an early 12-4 advantage. After the two programs traded baskets over the next four minutes, Oklahoma (13-3, 1-2 Big 12) narrowed the KU advantage to 19-15 after a 5-0 run.

KU pushed its lead back to seven before the Sooners trimmed the advantage to one. Junior Javian McCollum opened the scoring spurt with a made free throw and sophomore Milos Uzan buried a 3-pointer. McCollum capped the run with a layup.

Kansas extended its lead to 26-22 after a three by Dajuan Harris with 7:42 left. Sophomore Otega Oweh responded with a 3-pointer and junior Jalon Moore slammed home a putback dunk, giving Oklahoma its first lead.

After KU sank a pair of free throws to regain the advantage, OU scored four points on back-to-back layups by Oweh and Uzan, putting the Sooners up 31-28 with 4:32 left.

Both programs traded baskets to close the half and Kansas entered the break up 38-37.

Kansas' Hunter Dickinson opened the final 20 minutes with a layup. Uzan countered with a drive to the basket, completing the three-point play at the line. The Sooners went up 42-40 after Oweh scored on a fastbreak layup.

Following OU's quick start to the second half, the Jayhawks put together a 6-0 run and never relinquished their lead.

McCollum finished with a team-high 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting and added four rebounds and three assists. Uzan and Oweh tallied 15 and 12 points, respectively. Moore grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and added five points. Redshirt freshman Luke Northweather scored a season-high six points on two 3-pointers.
