Transfer Ava Catanzarite Joins Sooners For 2023-24

NORMAN - Oklahoma women's tennis Audra Cohen announced the addition of transfer Ava Catanzarite on Friday.

"We are so excited to add a student athlete of Ava's caliber," said Cohen. "Aside from her incredible tennis and academic profile, Ava is going to bring a feistiness to our program that will add to our standard. We cannot wait for herĀ to get here."

From Pittsburgh, Pa., Catanzarite joins the Sooners in August 2023 after two seasons at UCLA. During her time playing for the Bruins, she tallied a 24-22 singles record and reached a career-high at No. 42 in the ITA singles rankings. In doubles, she posted a career-high ranking at No. 23 in the ITA poll.

Catanzarite totaled six wins versus nationally-ranked singles opponents and three over ranked doubles pairs. Adding on to her playing stats, she is a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete, a CSC Academic All-District Team member, Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll member and a five-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll member.

Prior to UCLA, Catanzarite was tabbed a Blue Chip recruit and rose to No. 11 in the nation, No. 1 in Pennsylvania and No. 3 in the Middle Atlantic region, according to TennisRecruiting.net. She also reached a career-high ITF junior ranking at No. 125 and swept ITF junior singles and doubles championships at J4 Kingston, Nassau, Le Diamant and Saint-Francois in 2019.

The Gomez Tennis Academy trained junnior also seized the doubles title at the J3 Monterrey tournament and ITF junior doubles crown in 2019. She also helped her team at North Allegheny Senior High to a WPIAL Class AAA championship in 2017, as well as reaching the final round in the singles championship.

OU will return to the court in the fall with a schedule announced at a later date.
