NORMAN – Oklahoma head women's basketball coach Jennie Baranczyk has been named an on-court coach for the upcoming 2023 USA Women's U19 National Team trials, it was announced by USA Basketball today.
Baranczyk is one of the five head coaches that will attend the trials, scheduled for May 12-15 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The trials are set in anticipation of the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's World Cup, slated for July 15-23 in Madrid.
It's Baranczyk's second Team USA appearance after she served as an on-court coach at the 2017 U19 National team trials, where she helped instruct players like Christyn Williams, Joyner Holmes, Chennedy Carter and others in the trial period. The 2017 Team USA squad returned home with a silver medal from the World Cup.
Baranczyk has reinvigorated the Oklahoma women's basketball program. She returned the Sooners to the top of the Big 12 in her second season, leading OU to a share of its first conference championship since 2009. Under her tutelage, Oklahoma has made two consecutive NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the Round of 32 in each of her first two seasons. A back-to-back finalist for National Coach of the Year, Baranczyk has compiled a 51-16 (.761) record in Norman, the best two-year start in program history.
The 2023 trials feature some of the top young players in the nation. Sydney Bowles, Talaysia Cooper, Londynn Jones, Chloe Kitts, Talana Lepolo, Cotie McMahon, Kiki Rice and Grace VanSlooten recently completed their freshman years. Players in the class of 2023 include Kamorea "KK" Arnold, Madison Booker, Essence Cody, Breya Cunningham, Aalyah Del Rosario, Jadyn Donovan, Hannah Hidalgo, Alyssa Latham, Courtney Ogden and Juju Watkins. The 2024 prospects are Joyce Edwards, Kiyomi McMiller, Mackenly Randolph, Kennedy Smith, Sarah Strong and Allie Ziebell.
Joni Taylor, head coach at Texas A&M, will serve as the head coach along with assistants DeLisha Milton-Jones (Old Dominion) and Teri Moren (Indiana). In addition, Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey will join Baranczyk as a court coach.
