Mansfield Hires Scott to Complete OU Coaching Staff

April 28, 2023 | Volleyball

NORMAN — New Oklahoma head volleyball coach Aaron Mansfield completed his full-time coaching staff Friday when he announced the hiring of 15-year professional player and former national team member Regan Scott as an assistant coach.

"We are thrilled to have Regan join us here," said Mansfield. "We had an extensive search for this open position and feel like Regan was the best fit for our staff. We are always looking to expand our knowledge of the game and bring innovative ideas into our gym and Regan is going to add tremendously to that."

Scott joins the Sooners after serving as an assistant coach at Dartmouth in 2022 under head coach Gilad Doron. Scott helped Dartmouth to its best Ivy League win total in 2022 (8-6 record) to finish fourth in the conference and appear in the Ivy League Tournament. She also helped the team defeat Penn on the road for the first time since 1999 and helped the squad finish 25th nationally in aces per set (1.80).

"Regan is an exceptional person and coach," Doron said. "She loves teaching and is very passionate about volleyball. With her 15-year professional playing career, she knows how to motivate players and get them ready for matches and practices. In addition, she has a great personality and a unique ability to connect with the student-athletes, giving them support they need on and off the court. I was blessed to have Regan as my assistant coach and as a true friend. I know Oklahoma is fortunate to have her as part of their volleyball program."

Individually, Scott helped Dartmouth players Ellie Blain, Bomi Ogunlari and Amelia Gibbs to All-Ivy honors. Blain and Ogunlari were named to the second team while Gibbs was an honorable mention selection. Defensively, Ogunlari broke the program record for blocks in a season (97) and tied for most blocks per set in a season (1.18).

Bringing a wealth of international experience, Scott played overseas from Spain to Azerbaijan during her career and many other countries in between. In 2006, she played for Dok Dwingeloo in the Netherlands for a season before spending the next year in Spain and three seasons in France with two different teams. Following a year each in Azerbaijan and Romania, Scott served as team captain of Ilbank SK in Turkey from 2013-14. She had a short stint in Puerto Rico before returning to Turkey and spending time in Poland, and then captaining teams in Indonesia and Turkey again. After action in Italy and Germany, she played for Olympiacos in Athens, Greece, from 2018-20 before wrapping up her playing career in Romania in 2021.

"She (Regan) had an extensive professional career that allowed her to experience the sport in many different parts of the world," Mansfield noted. "I am excited for her to share her experiences and knowledge from that playing journey with our players and our staff. We are thrilled to learn from her and are lucky to have her here with us."

Scott also enjoyed an extensive playing career with the U.S. National Team (2011-14), helping the squad finish third at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. She also helped the U.S. to a sixth-place finish in the 2013 FVIB World Grand Prix, and captained the team to a second-place showing in Mexico City at the Pan America Cup in June 2014.

"I feel very fortunate to be joining the Oklahoma volleyball program and staff and to work with these talented student-athletes," Scott said. "I would like to thank Aaron and (administrator) Jaye (Rideaux) for this great opportunity to continue to grow as a coach and person. This is an exciting opportunity to partner with this experienced coaching staff and to execute on the vision and tradition of the program and OU Athletics. I'm excited for the potential of the program and can't wait to see what we accomplish."

A 2006 LSU graduate with a degree in kinesiology and a minor in sociology, Scott was a four-year letterwinner for the Tigers and served as team captain in her junior and senior seasons. In 2003, the outside hitter/middle blocker earned an All-SEC second-team selection and was named first-team All-Louisiana in her final two seasons. Scott still ranks sixth all-time at LSU in kills per set (3.31) and recorded 1,172 kills in her career. She was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in her final three seasons as a Tiger.
