Carter Campbell was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after registering a win and a save in OU's road series sweep at No. 14 Texas over the weekend, the conference office announced Monday.
In three appearances last week, Campbell pitched 8.2 innings and allowed only one run on five hits and no walks. He tossed 6.1 scoreless relief innings over the first two games against Texas, helping the Sooners clinch the series win.
The Keller, Texas, product pitched the final 3.0 innings to earn the victory in the series opener at Texas Friday night. He entered in a tie game and held the Longhorns to only two singles, earning his fifth victory of the season. He turned around and threw 3.1 frames in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader, striking out three and allowing only one to single to maintain OU's two-run lead in an eventual 9-6 win, earning his first save with the Sooners. Campbell also made an appearance at Oklahoma State last Tuesday, throwing 2.1 innings.
Campbell leads the Big 12 and ranks third nationally with his 25 pitching appearances (national leaders have made 26 appearances). He leads the Sooners in victories (5-3 record) and is second on the team in opponent batting average (.234) among pitchers who have made at least 10 appearances.
This is Campbell's first Big 12 weekly award and Oklahoma's third conference weekly award this season. Freshman catcher
Easton Carmichael was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on March 13 and junior shortstop
Dakota Harris was named Newcomer of the Week on March 20.
