NORMAN – Right fielder Bryce Madron and designated hitter Diego Muniz accounted for eight RBI, but Oklahoma baseball fell to No. 7 Stanford 23-11 on Thursday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Cardinal (17-5) tallied 11 runs in the opening two frames, scoring four in the first on a grand slam by Malcolm Moore and seven in the second.

The Sooners (13-13) plated their first run of the contest in the second inning. With two outs, the Sooners had runners on first and second after a walk by sophomore third baseman Wallace Clark. Muniz slapped a ball to center, plating redshirt junior first baseman Sebastian Orduno.

After Stanford plated two runs in the third, Oklahoma answered with a run on a RBI single by Orduno, scoring sophomore center fielder John Spikerman from second.

The Cardinal tacked on one run in the fourth to extend their lead to 14-2.

Oklahoma put together its best offensive inning of the contest in the fifth, scoring five runs on a pair of home runs.

With one out, Clark laced a double to left and scored on a two-run homer by Muniz. Junior shortstop Anthony Mackenzie reached on a throwing error by the Stanford second baseman and the Sooners had runners on first and second with two outs after a ground out and walk by Spikerman. Madron smashed a three-run home run to right, reaching the five-run tally.

Stanford tallied four and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

Mackenzie joined the slug fest in the sixth and tallied a solo blast to left.

After holding the potent Stanford offense scoreless in the seventh, Oklahoma produced three runs in its half of the inning.

With one out, Clark and Muniz recorded consecutive singles and the Sooners had runners on the corners. Freshman left fielder Rocco Garza-Gongora smashed a deep fly ball to right, allowing Clark to score. After the Sooners again put runners on first and third, Madron continued his dominance at the plate, sending a pair to the dish on a single to center field.

Stanford added two runs in the eighth and a run in the ninth.

Madron finished 3 for 4 at the dish and tallied a season-high five RBI, eclipsing his previous tally of four RBI set against UNLV on March 7, 2023.  Muniz was 3 for 5 and tallied three RBI. Spikerman and Clark each tallied multi-hit days and Spikerman recorded a pair of doubles.

The Sooners used nine pitchers and starter Kale Davis earned the loss (2-3). Stanford's Max Meier earned his first victory of the season.
