Baranczyk, Williams and Robertson Earn WBCA Honors

March 30, 2023 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – Punctuating two of the best careers in Oklahoma history, Madi Williams and Taylor Robertson were named All-America Honorable Mentions, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association revealed Thursday evening. Oklahoma head coach Jennie Baranczyk was also announced as one of the 10 finalists considered for the WBCA National Coach of the Year Award for the second consecutive season.

It's the second consecutive season that Williams earned All-America honors from the WBCA and the first time for Robertson, who was an Associated Press All-America honoree last season. The two are the first Sooner teammates to earn back-to-back All-America honors since Stacey Dales and LaNeisha Caufield in 2001 and 2002.

Williams, a redshirt senior from Fort Worth, led the Sooners' high-powered offense in points per game this year, averaging 15.7 points on a team-high 51.4% clip this season. The first Sooner in history to eclipse 2,000 points, 900 rebounds and 350 assists in their career, Williams leaves Oklahoma inside the program's all-time top five in points, rebounds, assists and steals, finishing as the program's second all-time leading scorer. In 2022-23, she joined the consensus national player of the year, Caitlin Clark, as one of two players to post 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per 40 minutes.

Robertson closed her collegiate career as the NCAA's all-time women's 3-point record holder, sinking 537 3-pointers as a Sooner. Her 91 made treys in 2022-23 were 15th most nationally, and her season 3-point percentage of 43.5% led the Big 12 and was sixth in Division I among players with at least 75 3-pointers on the season. In addition, her offensive rating of 137.5 was the second-highest in the country, and she is the only woman in NCAA history to post five seasons with an offensive rating of 125.0.

Baranczyk, a finalist for the National Coach of the Year honor in her inaugural season in 2022, led Oklahoma to its first Big 12 championship since 2009 this year. The Sooners posted 14-4 record in league play to share the conference's regular season title with Texas. Appearing in its second NCAA Tournament in a row under Baranczyk, Oklahoma has now played in 21 tournaments since 2000. The Sooners' 14 conference wins were the most for OU since a 15-1 conference campaign in 2008-09 en route to the Final Four. As a team, Oklahoma's 26 wins were the most since the 2009-10 Sooners went 27-11.

Williams and Robertson, as well as fellow redshirt senior Ana Llanusa, have declared for the 2023 WNBA Draft, which will be held April 10 at Spring Studios in New York City. The draft will air on ESPN at 6 p.m. CT. A total of 14 Sooners – LaNeishea Caufield, Stacey Dales, Whitney Hand, Dionnah Jackson, Abi Olajuwon, Ashley Paris, Courtney Paris, Danielle Robinson, Rosalind Ross, Leah Rush, Nyeshia Stevenson, Amanda Thompson, Maria Villarroel and Phylesha Whaley – have been drafted into the league.

Oklahoma was the only Big 12 school with two honorees in the WBCA reveal, as Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Texas each had one player selected. Baranczyk was the only Big 12 head coach named a finalist for National Coach of the Year.
