Cohen Adds Safarova For 2023-24 Season

NORMAN - Oklahoma women's tennis head coach Audra Cohen announced Tuesday the addition of Zdena Safarova for the 2023-24 season.
"We are really excited to add Zdena to our program," said Cohen. "Zdena represents our standard for excellence both onĀ and off the court. She brings a high-level tennis game and a ton of international playing experience. This coupled with her discipline and passion for tennis makesĀ her an excellent fit for our program. Her growth mentality and passion for the game makes her stand out among her peers."
From the Czech Republic, Safarova has a career-high ITF ranking of 179 and WTA of 1023 in singles and 751 in doubles. She comes to Norman with five total juniors titles and two W15 doubles titles; W15 Bad Waltersdorf and W15 Monastir.
Safarova tabbed 23 singles wins and 23 doubles wins in WTA tournaments and competed in seven countable tournaments in 2022.
The righty jumped from a 1305 ranking to 840 in doubles in one year and moved up 300 spots in singles.
"I am very excited to join the Oklahoma team," said Safarova. "I know it will be a challenge and I will develop in my tennis and as a person."
The Sooners are currently 13-6 and 3-1 in Big 12 play for the 2023 season. They will head to the West Coast next and start their trip against No. 5 Pepperdine on Friday, March 24 at 3 p.m. CT in Malibu, Calif. They will then make their way to San Diego, Calif., to take on San Diego on Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m. CT.
