Dodanli, Freeman Earn MPSF Accolades

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics sophomore Emre Dodanli was named Gymnast of the Week and senior Jack Freeman was named Specialist of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation after leading No. 1 Oklahoma to a road victory over No. 10 California on Saturday, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Dodanli won three event titles on Saturday, registering a career-high 14.800 on floor. He won vault with a 14.600 and claimed the high bar title with a 13.700. He also notched a 14.000 to finish second (by one-tenth) on parallel bars. Dodanli, who has competed in the same four events in seven straight meets, recorded a personal season-high 57.100 on his four events. He more than doubled his event titles for the season in one meet. The Milton, Ontario, product has now won five event titles, including three on floor. He ranks second nationally on floor, seventh on vault and 10th on high bar.

Freeman registered a career-high 14.350 on vault and scored a 14.550 on floor Saturday. His vault was a season-best by .250 points and eclipsed his previous career high of 14.300, and the floor score was his second highest of the season. The Palestine, Texas, product ranks fourth nationally and first in MPSF on both floor and high bar.

Oklahoma has now won 10 MPSF weekly award this season. This is the first conference weekly award of the season for both Dodanli and Freeman. Vitaliy Guimaraes was named MPSF Gymnast of the Week last week (March 14), Zach Nunez was named Gymnast of the Week twice (Feb. 7 and 21), Ignacio Yockers was named Specialist of the Week twice (Feb. 14 and 21) and Freshman of the Week twice (Feb. 1 and 7) and Dan Simmons was named Specialist of the Week on Feb. 7.

The Sooners next compete at the MPSF Championship, which will be held April 1 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
