Oklahoma Finishes at No. 1 Heading into NCAA Postseason

NORMAN – After registering its best-ever Big 12 Championship score to claim its 19th conference title in program history, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team finishes at No. 1 in the last national rankings before the NCAA postseason with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 198.355. The Sooners have held the top spot for all 11 weeks before the NCAA postseason, including the past five weeks since rankings were determined by NQS this season.
The Sooners won all four events and the all-around and posted its best beam score in program history (49.800) behind senior Ragan Smith's perfect 10 to claim its 14th Big 12 team title with a 198.400. The score matches the seventh-best total in program history and was the second-best score over the weekend. OU continues to hold the highest NQS in program and NCAA women's college gymnastics history with a 198.355. The last time the Sooners held the top spot for the entire year prior to the NCAA postseason was in 2019.
NQS is based on a team's six best regular season scores, three of which must be away. The overall high score is eliminated, and the five remaining scores are averaged. NQS scores are used to determine seeding for NCAA regional competition, which the Sooners will be hosting in Lloyd Noble Center from March 29-April 1. The teams will be announced during the NCAA selection show today at 11 a.m. CT on NCAA.com. OU, Michigan and Florida all hold NQS' of 198-plus heading into the NCAA postseason. The Gators moved back to the No. 2 spot with a 198.110 after winning their 12th SEC Championship and posting the highest score in the nation over the weekend. The Wolverines remain in the top three with a 198.080, posting their fifth score of 198-plus this season en route to their 27th Big Ten Championship. 2023 Pac-12 Championship runner-up UCLA remains at No. 4 with a 197.950, while Utah rounds out the top-five with a 197.910 after earning its sixth Pac-12 Championship over the weekend.
For the eighth consecutive week, OU is ranked in the top three on each of the four events, including the No. 1 spots on vault (49.555) and bars (49.650) for the fifth straight week. The Sooners remain second on beam with a 49.630 and third on floor nationally with a 49.595 (tied with Michigan and No. 6 LSU). Over the weekend, OU earned the second-best score in the nation this season on beam with a program-best 49.800.
Six Sooners earned a total of 14 individual top-25 rankings with at least one gymnast ranked in the top 10 on all four events and in the all-around, including three Sooners in the top five on two events (vault and beam) and in the all-around. For the fifth consecutive week, four out of six gymnasts that competed on bars over the weekend are ranked in the top-25 in NQS.
Six Sooners garnered eight conference individual titles on all four events and in the all-around at the Big 12 Championship last Saturday night, including a perfect 10 from Smith on beam. Smith was the only Big 12 gymnast over the weekend to earn a 10.0 on any event and one of just three gymnasts nationally.
Bowers ranks in the top 10 on three events and in the all-around, including fifth in the all-around (39.685 NQS), tied for seventh on beam (9.950), eighth on floor (9.950) and 10th on bars (9.945). She is also tied for 11th on vault with a 9.920 NQS. The Lincoln, Neb., native picked up her second and third career Big 12 titles, respectively, with a 9.950 on floor and 39.700 in the all-around. She became the first Sooner to win a conference all-around crown since Maggie Nichols in 2018. Bowers has earned 20 individual titles this season and now ranks 10th in program history with 40 career titles.
Junior Audrey Davis is ranked in the all-around nationally for the second consecutive week at No. 19 (tied) with a 39.545 NQS. Davis earned her fourth consecutive all-around score of 39.500 or higher this season with a 39.575 to finish third in the all-around at the Big 12 Championship. The Oakland, Fla., native is also tied for sixth nationally on bars (9.960 NQS) and No. 23 on beam (9.925). Davis won her first Big 12 individual championship on bars and is ranked fifth in program history with 18 career bars titles.
Four other Sooners also boast top-10 rankings this week, including two ranked in the top-five on their respective events. Junior Katherine LeVasseur, the 2023 Big 12 Event Specialist of the Year, remains No. 4 on vault for the fourth consecutive week with a 9.945 NQS. LeVasseur has earned two perfect 10s on the event and third overall. Smith moved up seven spots into the top five (No. 5; 9.960) after earning her fourth career perfect 10 on beam and fourth Big 12 individual title. In the record books, Smith is tied for fifth in career conference titles, career perfect scores and career beam titles (15). The Lewisville, Texas, native is also tied for No. 21 on bars nationally with teammate Danielle Sievers (9.925).
Sievers also moved up seven spots on vault to No. 8 with a 9.925 NQS. The Gary, S.D., native matched a career-best 9.950 on vault to earn her second career Big 12 crown and first on vault last Saturday. The event title was also the first in 2023 for Sievers. Freshman Faith Torrez is tied for eighth overall on floor with a 9.950 NQS and tied as the top freshman nationally with California's eMjae Frazier. For the past five weeks, Torrez held the top spot on the event as a freshman. The 2023 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year was the only freshman at the 2023 Big 12 Championship to win an individual title.
The road to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, will make a journey through Norman and Lloyd Noble Center in 2023. OU is one of four NCAA Regional host sites this season, meaning the Sooners will have a home-floor advantage during the three-day regional competition. This will mark the fifth time for the Sooners to host a regional (also in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2022). OU has won all four regional championships held at the LNC.
