NORMAN – Oklahoma assistant women's basketball coach Chantel Osahor was selected to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Thirty Under 30 list, the organization announced Monday.
The Thirty Under 30 program was created eight years ago to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, attitude and professional association involvement.
"Congratulations to these 30 coaches who have distinguished themselves so early in their careers," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The WBCA is pleased to recognize this up-and-coming talent in our coaching family. We celebrate their effort on the basketball court as teachers and equally applaud the extensive role they play in impacting the lives of their student-athletes."
Osahor, in her second year as a member of Jennie Baranczyk's staff, has been instrumental in Oklahoma's reemergence as a powerhouse. With Osahor on the bench, the Sooners have appeared in two consecutive NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championships, advancing past the first round in each season. This season, the Sooners won a share of their first Big 12 Conference championship since 2009 after accumulating a 14-4 record in league play.
An All-American player from the University of Washington, Osahor has spent time as an assistant coach at Arkansas and Drake. In two years at Arkansas, Osahor helped guide the Razorbacks to the NCAA Tournament in 2021, and the Hogs would've likely appeared in the 2020 tournament had it not been canceled. With Osahor on the bench, Arkansas compiled a 43-17 record over the two seasons and finished 15th in the 2021 AP Poll, its highest ranking since 1995. Osahor served on Baranczyk's staff at Drake as a graduate assistant during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, helping the Bulldogs to a 53-15 overall record, a 35-1 Missouri Valley Conference mark and two NCAA tournament appearances.
Osahor was the only assistant in the Big 12 named to this year's Thirty Under 30 list.
